PHOENIX IN THE BIN

Phoenix in the Bin by Flicker.
Album: At Least 1000 Words

Fun Facts:
* Phoenix in the Bin is a situation that will change.
* What would happen if you put a phoenix in your bin?
* Would it fit?
* Do you suppose it would stay there long?
* What would happen when it escapes?
* Would it set fire to things?
* Can you own one?
* If so, can you throw it away?
* This piece tries to examine these issues.
* Phoenix in the Bin describes change, volatility, uncertainty, blurred scenery, alcohol, cold wet November nights, and hope.
* Originally this tune was going to be called simply In the Bin, yet somehow the image of the phoenix seemed an appropriate addition.
* Dave tuned the Plank down to a low-A tuning – the lowest note on a piano – for this number, to match the key it’s in – A minor.
* The band listened to lots of samples of fires, but most of them didn’t sound like fires at all.
* A wonderful saturation of strings occurs in the section towards the end.
* It’s quite dense, with all the cellos and guitars and reverbs.
* Phoenix in the Bin contains more audio parts than any of the other tracks on the album At Least 1000 Words.
* It also took up the most space on the hard drive.
* Even after two bounces, it still filled the memory and was tricky to mix down.
* Flicker wanted an orchestra at the beginning, but alas, none was available.
* Lots of orchestral MIDI parts, that ended up sounding absolutely dreadful, were recorded and subsequently deleted again.
* The tempo is 130BPM.
