about
This song is in the key of C#m and is 120BPM.
The main riff is C#m, B, F#m, A.
The song was written around the vocals, bass and keys.
“We can’t eat but we can go to Mars” is two beats.
“Peace” is a word that when sung sounds like “Peas”. “There ain’t no money in peas” was confirmed by a Watershed song, which told us “Sell your peas with a share certificate.”
Andy once accidently sang “Fist-fuck fumble” instead of “First-fuck fumble”.
Pete wrote out the original lyric sheet and included every ‘yeh’ in the song.
“Thinking is like blinking with soap upon your eye, It hurts like hell when you do it first but you surely will not die” remains to this day a favourite lyric of the Explicit Music team.
Some of the string sounds were from the Red Rug synths, the other keyboard sounds Richard invented himself.
George plays the guitar parts on Nicodemus.
lyrics
ASYLUM CHILD
Dangerous decision to think before you talk
Might find you’re saying something and making people bored
Listen to the airwaves, gibberish is king
Communication breakdown don’t mean a god-damn thing
Thinking is like blinking with soap upon your eye
It hurts like hell when you do it first but you surely will not die
Read a paper, see the news, the facts are there to see
If that’s the case I wanna leave, this place is not for me
Confusion – wait, wait a minute
Delusion is gripping us with its force
Using blindness as its source
Fusion is hot-wired up to talk
It’s hot-wired up to talk
Can’t afford to breathe the air
I can’t afford the fare
God is in the biggest bank
And we’re happy with him there
Can’t afford to breathe the air
I can’t afford the fare
God is in the biggest bank
His money’s everywhere
There is a secret garden but we’ve forgotten how to look
We’re ace in space and swapping hearts, we’re taught to cook the books
Money jungle, first-fuck fumble, do everything in cars
The sheriff is shot, we bombed the lot, we can’t eat but we can go to Mars
Test tube life new recipe technology disease
The joke’s on us, we missed the bus, there ain’t no money in peace
Dangerous decision to think before you talk
Might find you’re saying something and making people bored
Confusion – wait, wait a minute
Delusion is gripping us with its force
Using blindness as its source
Fusion is hot-wired up to talk
It’s hot-wired up to talk
Can’t afford to breathe the air
I can’t afford the fare
God is in the biggest bank
And we’re happy with him there
Can’t afford to breathe the air
I can’t afford the fare
God is in the biggest bank
His money’s everywhere
