about

The Cruellest Dream by The Bastard Sons of Dennis, from their album Cherry Smoke Empire.

The Cruellest Dream is a beautiful, haunting, whimsical song which is performed solo on guitar and voice by Q. Wim Lijkkes. It is an old song that was recorded on 1st November 2012 in Studio One, and it was mixed and mastered on 2nd November 2012.

It first became a part of the repertoire of The Bastard Sons of Dennis during their early days in the sand dunes on Exmouth beach in the summer of 1994. Yuri was never quite able to fully understand or master the various temporal conundrums contained within and eventually abandoned the idea of being able to perform it with any degree of certainty.

As The Cruellest Dream is such a wonderful song, we all wanted to include it on this collection of recordings so that the fans of The Bastard Sons of Dennis could finally enjoy it as well. The Cruellest Dream was never performed live by our gruesome twosome.

lyrics

THE CRUELLEST DREAM
Did you remember me that morning
The things that I said
As the sun crept up your body
As you lay in your bed
Well my feet barely touched the ground
In the daylight the night time sound
That enveloped my tired and weary head

Awakened by a sunrise a glow of delight
And I knew that I had kissed you, I knew it felt right
While I deciphered the way it seemed
I had cried at the cruellest dreams
And you enlightened my soul with mouth to mouth

While I followed you excited, I wasn't prepared
For the energies created, the things that we shared
I began to believe in you
From the forests of love anew
Comes the screaming of heart's desire released

But my symbols were distorted, your eyes held the truth
Had I looked I would have noticed the sign of his hoof
My invocation was part undone as I cried for the setting sun
And the mother I held the love frowned down
